The Greater Toronto Area Amateur Tour

Repeat performance for Ashleigh and Corvese

COPETOWN (AUGUST 31, 2010) – The GTAAT returned to Copetown Woods GC today to play The Championship-A Flight Digital Cement Classic. It was yet another hot and humid day for the Tour’s competitors; however, the heat did not seem to affect the scores, which were low in both flights. Once again, the wind was not a factor at the Hamilton area course, and certainly was a contributing factor to the lower scores throughout both flights. The smaller field of 45 players was tight in competition with today’s victors mirroring their finishing order three weeks ago at The TaylorMade Tussle.

Convincing victories at The Digital Cement Classic

COPETOWN (AUGUST 30, 2010) – It was another hot and humid day out on the course for the GTAAT, as the B-C Flights started off the Digital Cement Classic at Copetown Woods GC. This type of weather has become a regular occurrence this season, constantly testing the Tour’s players’ endurance and focus. Sixty-seven players competed today, making it one of August’s largest fields. The Hamilton-area course’s links style design usually forces players to compete under some windy conditions, but with the hot and heavy air today, there was little wind for the players to contend with. The result was some low scores shot throughout each field, but both of today’s winners really managed to go-low to take home the titles in a convincing fashion.

Order of Merit leaders come out on top

TORONTO (August 25, 2010) – The GTAAT returned to Royal Woodbine GC today to complete The Nature Valley Open. Forty-five Championship and A Flight players took to the course today under warm sunny conditions that finished just before the late-day showers. Two weeks ago, the narrow, shot-maker’s design of Royal Woodbine proved to be quite the challenge for the B and C Flights, but it did not seem to faze the Championship and A Flights who successfully managed their way around the course, shooting some of the lowest scores of the season. Each Flight had a good strong showing, including some of its top Order of Merit leaders. And today, both Flight’s leaders re-asserted their dominance by taking home their respective titles.

Cedar Brae G&CC hosts The TaylorMade Tussle

SCARBOROUGH (August 23, 2010) – The GTAAT returned to Cedar Brae G&CC today to complete the TaylorMade Tussle. The tournament began two weeks ago with the Championship and A Flight players, and today 62 B and C Flight players had their opportunity to play the course. Again, the narrow, traditional design of the Scarborough-area course proved to be a bit of a challenge for the players. However, the biggest challenge, yet again, came from the lightning quick greens, which managed to hold-up under slightly rainy conditions. The slightly smaller field – for the B and C Flights – was still exceptionally close, and kept up with what seems to be the theme of 2010: first-time winners.

Windy weather challenges players at The Battle at the Peaks

COLLINGWOOD (AUGUST 16, 2010) – The GTAAT returned to The Georgian Bay Club today, one of its most popular host venues, for The Battle at the Peaks. The challenging and picturesque Hurdzan-Fry designed course has been a part of the Tour’s rotation for several seasons now, and never disappoints. Today’s field of 107 golfers was one of the Tour’s largest of the summer, really forcing today’s participants to be on their game. Perched above Georgian Bay, the course often has a bit of a breeze, and today’s competitors really had to deal with that, as strong winds added to the course’s difficulties. In the end, focused golf from a few of the Tour’s best made The Battle at the Peaks one of the GTAAT’s most exciting tournaments of the season.

Steady play beats the heat at The Nature Valley Open

TORONTO (AUGUST 11, 2010) – A placement type golf course can test a player’s patience in the best of conditions, but throw in some really humid and sticky weather, and you really have to keep a level head if you want to score well. That was just the challenge that GTAAT competitors faced today at Royal Woodbine GC while playing the B-C Flight Nature Valley Open. Fifty-nine players competed today in hot and sticky weather on the challenging Michael Hurdzan designed course. The Toronto area course weaves its way around a very small property demanding some well placed shots if players hoped to score well. The two able to accomplish that were those who came out on top today, posting consistent numbers all the way around the course.

Crucial victories for Order of Merit contenders at The TaylorMade Tussle

SCARBOROUGH (AUGUST 9, 2010) – The GTAAT was at Cedar Brae G&CC today to play The TaylorMade Tussle. Forty-five Championship and A Flight players competed today under a variety of weather conditions; hot and humid weather, early in the day, eventually cooled off and turned into showers and rain towards the end of the tournament. The Scarborough-area course has played host to a number of GTAAT events in the past, and has always proven to be a challenge. Well-manicured fairways and tees were equally matched by lightning fast greens that tested players’ wits and patience. Victories by contenders in both Flights shook-up the Order of Merit races, and made the season-long championships just a little more interesting.

Three more first-time winners at The Mavea Masters

Mississauga (August 3, 2010) – The GTAAT was at Lionhead G&CC today to play the Mavea Masters. The 36-hole property hosted all four flights with the Championship and A Flight playing on the Legends course and the B-C Flights playing on the Masters course. The sweltering heat has started to become something of the norm at Tour events this summer, and today was no exception with very hot and humid temperatures, and little to no wind. Nonetheless, all four flights enjoyed the conditioning and challenges offered by the two courses. That enjoyment no doubt relaxed a few players today, allowing some additional focus, which ultimately resulted in three of today’s four winners being first time champions this season.
